Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a year and five months degree program including traditional Ayurvedic techniques and contemporary medical studies,  the total academic session is 4.5 years which is followed by a 1-year mandatory internship. 

What is the full form of BAMS?

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is an undergraduate degree in Ayurvedic medicine. Its full form is a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, a program lasting for five and half years. It includes academic studies for 4.5 years and 1 year of compulsory internship.  BAMS is considered an integrated course consisting of both contemporary and ayurvedic treatments. However, the majority of the applications focus on traditional methods of training. To get admission to medical college after the 12th, the students are required to clear the national-level BAMS entrance exam. The BAMS course provided an in-depth study of ayurvedic medicines, along with contemporary anatomy, principles of modern medications, principles of surgery, pharmacology, ENT, and many other issues. 

Eligibility criteria

  • BAMS is a Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery degree.  Therefore to be eligible for the BAMS program, candidates should have earned a grade point of 45-50 in biology from the accredited board during the class 12th exams. 
  • The Admission of students to BAMS is controlled by the results earned in nation-level NEET exams.
  • Candidates should also have chemistry, biology, and physics as their main subjects during their class 12.

After acceptance of the BAMS form, and accepting all the necessary details, it is important for the students should be aware that the four and half years are divided into four academic sessions, along with a one-year internship. Syllabus of BAMS

The syllabus for the bachelor in Ayurvedic medicine and Surgery is created in a manner that will help students in treating ailments and illnesses and also improve the immune system, and reduce the chances of diseases. Different types of Ayurvedic themes are covered during the completion of the course. The BAMS syllabus is divided into four different sections by the central council of Indian Medicine which is known as 1st Professional, 2nd Professional. 3rd Professional, and 4rth Professional. 

Admission procedure for BAMS

  • As the BAMS suggests Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, to get admission to the course it is important for the students to pass the Nation Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). 
  • As of now passing the test is only necessary to get admission into a medical program containing BAMS.
  • After passing the exam, the students are required to go through a centrally supervised counseling program to select their college location as per their academic grades. 
  • Colleges can also conduct an in-person interview round to further assess the capabilities of the applicants.
